San Diego AeroSpace Museum

San Diego Air & Space Museum brings B-17 World War II Hero to San Diego region and Gillespie Field March 1-2 for special flights offered to the general public.

(February 22, 2008) - The Liberty Belle, a restored WWII B-17 Flying Fortress bomber will take to the skies over San Diego on Monday, February 25th. (Media flights February 25th at 1pm, Public flights available March 1-2)

This is your invitation to see, tour and fly a mission in the Liberty Foundation's B-17 Bomber, "Liberty Belle."

Sixty years ago these aircraft flew from bases far from home in an attempt to bring freedom to oppressed people. Our B-17's mission for today is to educate the people of America about the courage WWII veterans and to remember those brave aircrew who never made it home. The "Liberty Belle" is a living museum, our heritage not in mothballs of the pages of a dusty book, but real life, three dimensions, here and now. You are invited to come and touch the past and fly through ageless skies.

The Liberty Belle was built to do exactly one thing, and not a single rivet deviates from that intent, yet is has been converted by human ingenuity and determination into a vessel that bridges understanding between generations. It's and old bomber with a new mission.

NOTE TO MEDIA: The Liberty Belle will make her first west coast visit in San Diego at the Gillespie Field airport ( Golden State Aviation FBO, 1640 North Johnson Ave) Monday, February 25th at 1pm for media opportunities. Press flights and interviews will be available at that time. It is our pleasure to offer you two seats on the press flights. Come take a step back in time and experience the sights and sounds of this historic WWII bomber from various crew positions during the flight. To reserve your seats on the press flights, please contact Scott Maher at (918) 340-0243 or email at smaher@libertyfoundation.org
