Women's Roles in Aviation Highlighted in New Exhibit at the San Diego Air & Space Museum(May 5, 2007) - Developing a series of exhibits highlighting the historic and on-going role of women in aviation the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park is proud to open the first phase to the public on Thursday, May 24, 2007. The opening of Women of Flight: Aerobatics corresponds with the 75th anniversary of Amelia Earhart's solo flight across the Atlantic. This first phase of the exhibit is self-guided and features historic and contemporary imagery and artifacts bringing to life such renowned aerobatic competitors such as Julie Clark and Patti Wagstaff. A kiosk will showcase video clips highlighting the women, aircraft and aerobatic maneuvers. The featured artifact of the exhibit is the Pitts Special, a popular aerobatic aircraft that thrilled spectators at air shows around the world. Plans to create additional exhibits throughout the Museum integrating the story of women in flight will portray a more accurate view of women's role in aviation. |
